Applying the Water Tunnel Technique for Safe Radiofrequency Treatment
Mild Radiofrequency Treatment

When closing refluxing veins using the heat energy (100–120°C) generated at the tip of the radiofrequency catheter, the Water Tunnel technique is applied - just as in laser treatment - to maximize safety.

TECHNIQUE

What Is Mild Radiofrequency?

Mild Radiofrequency Treatment is an advanced next-generation therapy developed by Sun Vascular Clinic that enhances safety by applying the clinic’s original Water Tunnel technique. This method retains the benefits of traditional radiofrequency surgery while preventing heat-related damage to the vein and surrounding tissues.

Radiofrequency surgery for varicose veins is one of the minimally invasive treatment methods. It works by using radiofrequency energy of about 100–120°C to contract the inner wall of the vein, which effectively seals the vessel. This process helps relieve varicose vein symptoms and prevents the progression of venous insufficiency.

In conventional radiofrequency procedures, the heat energy often irritated or damaged nearby skin, muscles, or nerves. At Sun Vascular Clinic, the Water Tunnel technique is also applied during radiofrequency treatment to ensure a safer, gentler, and more precise procedure.

  • Prevents damage to surrounding tissues caused by high radiofrequency heat

  • Provides a carefully refined treatment that prioritizes safety

  • Prevents side effects such as heat damage and tightness during radiofrequency surgery

[Advantages of Mild Radiofrequency at Sun Vascular Clinic]
  • Treatment requires only one tiny needle puncture, leaving no visible scars.
  • There is almost no bruising or swelling after treatment, and compression stockings are generally not needed.
  • Patients can return to daily life immediately, and from the next day resume normal activities such as work, school, walking, and light exercise. Patients can shower the next day.
  • Because a long recovery period is not required, patients can travel or go on business trips just two to three days after treatment.
  • Patients do not need to stop taking regular medications, such as aspirin, cholesterol-lowering, or blood pressure drugs. (Pre-surgery consultation is required.)
  • Even patients with allergic conditions such as atopic dermatitis or rhinitis can receive treatment safely, without allergic reactions.
  • The Mild Radiofrequency treatment performed with the Water Tunnel protection technique at Sun Vascular Clinic allows patients to return to normal activities on the same day, just like with VenaSeal therapy, while offering a shorter recovery time and minimal treatment burden.
PROCESS

Mild Radiofrequency Treatment Process at Sun Vascular Clinic

  1. Prepare the treatment area

Inject a small amount of local anesthetic with a fine needle to fully numb the site where the catheter will be inserted. Use ultrasound imaging to recheck the position, pathway, depth, and shape of the refluxing vein.

  2. Insert the catheter

Insert the radiofrequency catheter into the vein through an 18G needle puncture. Guide the catheter to the target area under real-time ultrasound monitoring.

  3. Inject the special protective solution

Using a catheter designed specifically for the Water Tunnel technique, inject a special protective solution around the vein to form a complete 360-degree protective layer.

  4. Deliver radiofrequency energy

Use the heat energy generated at the tip of the catheter to close the vein. If reflux is present at the vein origin, seal the problematic vessel precisely and horizontally near the deep vein to prevent recurrence.

  5. Confirm vein closure

Perform an ultrasound blood flow examination along the entire treated vein to ensure that it is completely closed.

  6. Complete the procedure

Finish the treatment with disinfection and temporary compression bandaging.
